Workouts don't feel good anymore. Clients annoy you. Maybe coaching isn't for you?
Sooner or later every coach hits this thought. That does not mean you should drop a job you once loved right away.
Better to notice whether any of this feels familiar:
- fatigue that does not go away even after a weekend
- clients start irritating you for no real reason
- you do not want to go to sessions you used to like
- it is hard to focus, you keep wanting coffee or an energy drink
- sleep is off
- in the evening you hang on your phone, scroll the feed and cannot stop
- more black humor, less joy from the work
- a feeling that there is simply no energy left for change
All of this can be signs of professional burnout. And no, these symptoms do not have to show up all at once.
The sneakiest part is that at first it feels like: this will definitely not happen to me.
Professional burnout is not just "I'm a bit tired." WHO defines it as a syndrome that comes from chronic stress at work.
So if one day you catch yourself thinking "I do not want to be a coach anymore" - maybe do not change careers immediately.
First it is worth understanding what exactly is taking your energy.
In the next pieces we will look at where burnout comes from and what to do with it.
